The Morgan City City Court is now accepting payments for tickets over the Internet, taking away some of the pain for traffic violations in Morgan City, through a service at www.ncourt.com.

City Court Judge Kim Stansbury said the service is really convenient for people, particularly “if you’re out of town.”

“Not only can you pay online but you can use your credit card. This is key, especially in today’s economy, particularly if you don’t have the cash up front. Normally, you would have to come to court, to get an extension,” he said.

The service is offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Morgan City’s link to the service at www.ncourt.com, was set up free of charge and the city will incur no costs for maintenance, Stansbury said. The cities of Hammond and Sulphur also utilize the service.

Once at www.ncourt.com, locate the state and city in which the violation is due. Stansbury said users will be directed to the Morgan City Court Web page.

Court Clerk Sue Hover said the ticket fee, plus a service charge, will be assessed by ncourt.com. The final charge depends on the original amount of the ticket as well as when it is paid.

“If you try to pay the ticket on the day it’s due, it will cost more than paying it in advance,” Hover said.

Hover said eventually, she hopes to add court fines to the ncourt.com service. “It’s actually going to be more convenient to the court, when we get all of this moving,” she said.

Stansbury said ncourt.com eventually will share in half the cost of reprinting Morgan City tickets so that the Web site will be listed on the portion officers give to violators.

In the meantime, the city is adhering stickers to tickets, indicating the available payment options.

Those who pay tickets in person at City Hall must do so with cash or money orders. Checks are not accepted, Hover said.
