Keep Nicholls Beautiful has been selected as a recipient of the University Affiliate Grant by Keep Louisiana Beautiful, the state’s premier anti-litter and community improvement organization. This year’s grant, in the amount of $4,505.05, will be used to purchase two outdoor recycling bins for campus use and instructional signage to prevent recyclable items, such as plastic bottles and aluminum cans, from entering landfills.

Nicholls Bridge to Independence students provide recycling pickup to the campus three times per week. With proper signage, recycling contamination can be prevented, and the Bridge students’ collection duties will be less troublesome. Not only will this grant improve the university, but it will help community members, as a new instructional sign will be purchased for the recycling dumpster, provided by Lafourche Parish, on campus and is available to the community. The proper signage will provide lasting information with detailed explanations of what can and cannot be placed in the bin.

More signs will also be purchased for Keep Nicholls Beautiful’s yearly cardboard recycling efforts on campus move-in days. At the start of each academic semester when students move into residence halls, KNB volunteers collect cardboard boxes from those moving in. These boxes are then donated to Lafourche Arc for their cardboard recycling program.
