April 29, 2010The ability to stay fit without even leaving campus is only a couple of years away for Nicholls students.
That’s because they passed a referendum this past Wednesday by an overwhelming 79 percent vote to fund the construction and operation of a campus recreation facility and activities program.
After a groundbreaking ceremony set for late fall 2010, the university is aiming to begin construction in January 2011, with an anticipated completion date around fall 2012.
“I want to commend the Student Government Association for their leadership in providing the student body with an opportunity to participate in this important decision,” said Nicholls President Stephen Hulbert. “Thanks to their leadership, Nicholls will no longer be the only University of Louisiana System institution without a recreation center.”
Hulbert added students will continue to be active participants in the planning and construction phase of the recreation center.
