Charles Boustany and Jeff Landry, Republican incumbents in the U.S. House forced into the same 3rd District after redistricting last year, are headed to a run-off. Boustany secured 45 percent of the vote, and Landry received 30 percent. Democrat Ron Richard received 21 percent of the vote.

Republican Bill Cassidy reclaimed his U.S. House District 6 seat with 79 percent of the vote.


Democrat William Dupont, with 39 percent of the vote, and Republican Mitch Theriot, 34 percent, will campaign for Court of Appeal 1st Circuit, 1st District, Division B in a run-off.


With 97 percent of the precincts reporting, the Bayou Cane Fire Protection District’s 20-mill property tax renewal passed with 60 percent of the vote. However, the district’s 10-mill proposed new property tax failed with 44 percent in favor.

Voters in Terrebonne approved the property-tax renewal of 1.66 mills, beginning in 2020, for operating and maintaining the Terrebonne Parish Health Unit and health unit facilities.


Terrebonne voters living in the Grand Caillou Fire Protection District approved a 5.71 mill property tax levy with 65 percent of the vote.


Propositions imposing term limits on school board members were overwhelming approved in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes. The three-term limit is not retroactive, so current board members can serve through three more elected terms.

In statewide amendments, Amendments 1-through-5, 7, 8 and 9 are all passed with a vote of YES.


Amendment 6 will fail with a vote of NO.

United States President Barack Obama has won re-election, according to multiple national media outlets.


The President won several key battleground states throughout the night to punch his ticket to re-election.

Lockport mayor Paul Champagne will remain in office, getting 93 percent of the vote over challenger Bruce Wilson.


UPDATE: 9:47 p.m.

A slew of Lafourche Parish elections have been decided.


Golden Meadow incumbent Mayor Joey Bouziga will remain in office, winning 79.4 percent of the vote over challenger Frank Boura.


On the Greater Lafourche Port Commission, Harris “Chuckie” Cheramie (65 percent) won over challengers Armojen “A.J.-Buddy” Cantrelle, Jr. and Roy Gisclair.

In Division B, Perry Gisclair (77 percent) defeated Jessie Cheramie.


In Division C, Kris Gaudet (50.24 percent) defeated Jimmy “T-Jim” Lafont.

In Division G, John Melancon (62 percent) defeated Dirk Callais.


In Division I, Vin Bruce (64 percent) defeated Robert Danos.

With 26 percent of the precincts reporting, Rep. Charles Boustany, of Lafayette, leads the U.S. Rep. District 3 race with 40 percent of the vote. Rep. Jeff Landry, of Iberia, has 32 percent of the vote and Democrat Ron Richard is at 24 percent. Boustany and Landry are both incumbent Republicans.

In the U.S. Rep. District 6 race, with 22 percent reporting, incumbent Republican Bill Cassidy has a commanding lead with 81 percent of the vote.

With 15 percent reporting in U.S. Rep. District 1, incumbent Republican Steve Scalise leads with 65 percent of the vote. Democrat Vinny Mendoza is running second with 24 percent of the vote.

In the Court of Appeal, 1st Circuit, 1st District, Division B race, with 31 percent reporting, Democrat William Dupont leads with 48 percent of the vote. Republicans Mitch Theriot, at 27 percent, Christopher Erny, at 17 percent, and Mark Plaisance, at 8 percent, follow.

WWL is reporting that Republican incumbent Steve Scalise has won his re-election bid for U.S. Representative in the 1st Congressional District.

UPDATE: 9:03 p.m.

With 17 percent of precincts reporting, it appears that a three-horse race has emerged in the 3rd Congressional District Race. Republican Incumbent Charles Boustany, Jr. currently holds 42 percent of the vote. He is trailed by Republican challenger Jeff Landry with 29 percent and Democrat challenger Ron Richard with 25 percent.

If no candidate obtains 50 percent of the vote, this race will have a run-off.

In other results, with 18 percent of precincts reporting, Democrat William Dupont holds 51 percent of the vote in the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals race.

Trailing Dupont are Republicans Mitch Theriot (26 percent), J. Christopher Erny (15 percent) and Mark Plaisance (8 percent).

UPDATE: 8:00 p.m.

The polls have officially closed in Louisiana and it doesn’t appear that there will be any drama in Louisiana regarding the presidential race.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has carried Louisiana and its eight electoral votes.
