Unregistered Tri-parish voters hoping to vote in Oct. 19’s election have until the close of business today to file the appropriate paperwork needed to cast a ballot.

Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler sent out a reminder this week to encourage voters to sign up before the deadline.

Schedler said that registration is currently high in the state, but stressed that any one person could make a difference in an election.

“Louisiana’s registration statistics are quite strong with approximately 84 percent of eligible citizens registered,” Schedler said. “But you can’t vote if you’re not registered, so it’s important for everyone to check their status right now and take care of any updates that need to be made.

“By all means, if you’re not registered, get registered.”

Oct. 19’s ballot is relatively light across the Tri-parishes and no actual people will be voted into or out of office on the day.

In Terrebonne Parish, voters will decide whether or not to renew millages in recreation districts No. 7 and No. 8.

A vote of yes would renew a rate of 9.50 mills for citizens in Dist. 7 and 9 mills in Dist. 8.

In St. Mary Parish, a similar measure is on the ballot and voters in Recreation District 1 will decide whether to renew its current 3-mill rate.

St. Mary voters will also vote to renew millages in drainages districts.

Lafourche Parish does not have anything on its ballot for Oct. 19.

Anyone wanting to register to vote can do so online at www.geauxvote.com. In addition, those wishing to register can visit the registrar of voter’s offices in any parish.
