A Houma fabrication company is reporting it could lay off almost 70 workers if it cannot find new work over the next two months.

Offshore Specialty Fabricators issued a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) with the Louisiana Workforce Commission on May 2. According to the LWC press release, Offshore Specialty could begin a mass layoff on July 5, which would affect 67 employees.

Companies are required to file notification if there is a mass layoff during a 30-day period. A layoff between 50 and 499 employees qualifies as a mass layoff if it affects at least one third of a location’s workforce.

Offshore Specialty originally furloughed the employees in March, according to the release. Offshore Specialty told the LWC it hopes to gain new contracts to avoid the layoff.
