Parish President Gordon Dove is strongly requesting that residents and landowners refrain from burning open land or marsh land at this time due to the extreme drought conditions we are still experiencing in Terrebonne Parish.

Coteau Fire Department and parish government are currently fighting a fire in a wooded area along La. Hwy 182 between Bayou Blue Road (La. Hwy 316) and Coteau Road (La. Hwy 660). Smoke from this fire has caused several accidents and road closures in the past couple of weeks.

Residents and landowners may be held liable, civilly or criminally, for any damages caused by a fire on your property; or fire started by you but causes damage to another person’s property and/or bodily harm.

Your cooperation from unnecessary, open or uncontained burning during this period of extreme drought si greatly appreciated.
