A Raceland woman died over the weekend from injuries she sustained in a head-on crash April 27, state police said.

Jeneva Billiot, 24, was a passenger in a 2001 Buick LaSabre being driven by Benjamin Sanchez, 31, of Galliano, Troop C spokesman Tfc. Evan Harrell said.

Sanchez’s LaSabre collided with a 2004 Jeep Laredo traveling south on La. Highway 1 in Galliano shortly before 10 p.m., the spokesman said. Brandon Cheramie, 31, of Galliano, was driving the Laredo, Harrell said.

Cheramie’s alcohol blood level was above the legal limit, and he was arrested for DWI following the crash, the spokesman said. Cheramie received minor injuries in the crash and refused treatment.

Meanwhile, Sanchez sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was treated at Lady of the Sea Hospital. He submitted a blood sample for testing and was cleared of imbibing. Billiot was critically injured, Harrell said. She was rushed to University Hospital in New Orleans, where she later died.

Harrell said the crash is still under investigation.
