A Thibodaux man died Tuesday morning from injuries he sustained after a passing vehicle hit him as he walked along the shoulder of La. Highway 20 in Terrebonne Parish, state police said.

Nicholas Shaw, 24, was walking south on the shoulder of the road when a Sentra, driven by Guy Cheramie, 30, also of Thibodaux, drifted onto the left shoulder and hit him, authorities reported.

Shaw was rushed to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, where he later died from injuries sustained in the accident.

State police said Cheramie was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was not hurt. He submitted to a sobriety test and was found to be under the legal limit. Results from a urine sample are pending at the State Crime Lab, investigators said.
