Playoff games hit the Tri-parish area

This week will be a busy one for local high school sports fans. Two area girl’s basketball teams will host Quarterfinal playoff games on Thursday night, while six area boy’s basketball teams tip off their postseason on Thursday and Friday nights.


Capping off the week, the Vandebilt Terriers boy’s soccer team travels to East Ascension to play of the state championship on Saturday and 6 p.m. The Terriers will be looking for fifth state championship in six years.


On the girl’s side of things, the No. 2 ranked Ellender Lady Patriots will host Chapelle, the District 8-5A champion. The Lady Patriots reached the Quarterfinals by defeated Airline 65-58 in the Regional round

The Vandebilt Lady Terriers will host Opelousas. The Lady Terriers beat LaGrange 52-33 in the Regional round. Opelousas, the second-place team in District 5-4A, beat Chalmette 56-42 to reach the Quarterfinals.


On the boy’s side, six teams start their postseason, with official times yet to be announced.

In Class 5A, the No. 1 team in the state, Ellender, will host New Iberia, the fourth-place team in District 2-5A. Meanwhile, District 6-5A’s second-place team, Thibodaux, will host Lafayette. Rounding out Class 5A, is Central Lafourche, which will travel to No. 6 Westgate.

In Class 4A, the Vandebilt Terriers will host No. 6 LaGrange. Meanwhile, No. 8 Morgan City travels to Bossier for a first-round match up.

Rounding out the area playoff teams is District 7-3A champion E.D. White, which will host North Vermillion.
