Want to know more about the state’s rich, unique coastal and marine environments?

The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium is offering a one-day workshop series – “Gulf Lagniappe” – at the DeFelice Marine Center in Cocodrie. The first session, titled “Plankton Populations/Water Quality,” will be held March 12. Dr. Geoff Sinclair is the scheduled presenter.

Pre-registration is urged to ensure a space on the R/V Acadiana, one of LUMCON’s research vessels. The cost is $10 per person.

Workshops are open to Gulf Coast residents, age 18 or older. Future sessions will also focus on one or more of the Gulf of Mexico Alliance’s priority issues.

In addition to an in-depth talk given by one of LUMCON’s research scientists, the workshops will include an environmental discussion and cruise, informative laboratory activities, a guided tour of the marine center and lunch in the LUMCON cafeteria.

For more information or to register, call Murt Conover at (985) 851-2860 or Holly Hebert at (985) 851-2842.
