Lafourche Parish Government and the Lafourche Parish Tourist Commission will reveal on Friday the new image that will be used to coerce tourists to the parish.

The new logo is scheduled to be unveiled at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 8 at the Lafourche Tourism Welcome Center, 4484 La. Highway 1 in Raceland.

The branding initiative is a segment of the Louisiana Tourism Recovery Program, which is funded by the state Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism and BP.

Lafourche Parish, as well as other coastal parishes, received $2.2 million in money designated for tourism marketing until 2013.

Parish President Charlotte Randolph and Carolyn Cheramie, director of the Bayou Lafourche Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, will co-host the event, which is open to the public.

“We’re only going to have the money for three years, so we’re trying to take what Carolyn is doing to the next level,” said Gretchen Caillouet, LPG’s director of Grants and Economic Development.

Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne was invited to the unveiling, Caillouet said.

Caillouet said the new logo would be displayed on billboards and in print advertisements. Initially, the campaign will be launched in the Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans area, but Caillouet expects the target area to eventually expand and encompass Houston, Jackson, Miss., and Memphis, Tenn.
