Lafourche businesses have been urged to reapply for emergency re-entry badges as Hurricane Season 2013 approaches.

The re-entry program, based on three tiers, allows company representatives in storm zones to return to their businesses more quickly than the general public in the aftermath of a storm. The old system, which used picture badges, is being revamped.

The Lafourche Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness manages the program.

To register, visit www.lafourchegov.org. There are various locations on the website that allows company administrators to follow instructions.

Under the new system, registered companies will receive emails with placards that will permit re-entry once an emergency is declared, said Lafourche Parish spokesperson Logan Banks.

Re-entry accounts must be updated each year in January. Those not updated will be suspended and company employees will not receive placards during an emergency, Banks said.
