Lafourche Parish Government will hold a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Mathews Government Complex to discuss the proposed location of the Saltwater Control Structure, which is currently located in Company Canal in Lockport.

The Saltwater Control Structure, which was built in 2003, was closed five times in the 16 months between October 2005 and January 2007, according to figures from the Bayou Lafourche Fresh Water District. It hasn’t been closed since 2007 and most of the closures lasted seven to 10 days.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the best location to place the structure to prevent future saltwater intrusion. All interested Lafourche Parish residents are invited to attend.
