Schriever artist Bentz wins LUMCON photo contest

Shriever photographer Penny Bentz walked away with the People’s Choice and the grand prize awards in LUMCON’s “Boats of Louisiana” photography contest with her picture entitled “Daybreak.”

The awards were announced during LUMCON’s annual open house event in late April.


Kyla D’arensurg won first place in the kid’s division – ages 12 and under – for her photo entitled “Steamboat on the Mississippi River.” She also won two honorable mentions for her photos entitled “Port of New Orleans” and “Waiting.” Second place went to Benjamin Fonville of Lecompte, for his photo “Boat and Speck, the Cur Dog,” while Hannah and Tessa Lefleur of Thibodaux took home third place for their combined effort in “Chacahoula Swampcat.”


Theresa Leblanc from Bourg also won an honorable mention for her photograph “Christmas Boat.”

In the teen division, Noelle Savoy from Lafayette won first place for “Put out to Pasture” and second place for “Shallow Water Reflections.” Gage Seaux of Lafayette won third place for his photo entitled “A Fisherman’s View.” Noel Bussey of Bourg brought home an honorable mention for “Eternity.”


In the employee division, Chauvin’s Nicole Cotten received all of the top honors. Her photos were, in first place, “Sea Fairy”; second, “Shallow Water Reflections”; and third, “Cage’n Claw Hauler.” An honorable mention went to employee Gwen Duplantis of Houma for her photo entitled “Catching Sunset Supper in Boudreaux Canal.”

In the adult division, the first place award went to Renee Bellow of Lafayette for “Morning Wake.” The second and third place awards went to Cody Sewell of Prairieville for “Doris Marie in Lockport” and “Ships Moored in Fog.”

Sewell also snagged an honorable mention with “Mississippi River Tow.”

Other honorable mentions went to Amy Scaroni of Baton Rouge for her photo entitled “For Hire,” and to Dana Rolke of Carencro for “Going Fishing.”

In addition to certificates, the grand prize and first place winners of the adult and employee categories were awarded gift certificates from Petersen’s Studios of Houma. The first place recipients in the kids’ and teens’ divisions received caps from LUMCON.
