In front of Louisiana’s most legendary political figure, the South Central Industrial Association welcomed its new leadership.

The association held its 19th annual banquet on Thursday at the Cypress Columns in Gray. At the banquet, SCIA awarded members for their contributions over the past year and installed its 2016-17 officers.

Actor John “Spud” McConnell served as the keynote speaker at the event, which featured live music and a three-course meal. McConnell, who is renowned for his portrayal of Louisiana Gov. Huey P. Long in the off-Broadway one-man show “The Kingfish,” took the crowd through a history of Louisiana, with a primary focus on its colorful political history. McConnell reprised his role as Long throughout his speech, bringing back the governor’s historic “Share Our Wealth” and “Every Man a King” speeches.

After McConnell’s performance, SCIA officials presented members with awards for their work over the past year. Chad Hebert received the Tillman Esteve Outstanding Member Award, while Morris P. Hebert won the President’s Award. After presenting Morris Hebert with his award, outgoing president O’Neil Malbrough delivered his report of the year before turning his seat over to Bill Blanchard for the upcoming year.

“I encourage all company members to take advantage of the services and information that is generated and produced through our various committees, as it is very helpful in planning for any changes and adjustments that we may be all faced within the management our businesses in these challenging times,” he said.

SCIA officers for 2016-17 are Blanchard, Gulf Island LLC, president; Cory Kief, Crosby Tugs, executive vice president; Paul Danos, Danos, vice president; Chett Chiasson, Port Fourchon, secretary; Charles Theriot, Charles C. Theriot & Co. CPAs, treasurer.

The 2016-17 directors for SCIA are Jared Toups, Oil States Industries; Stuart Faucheux, Express Supply and Steel; Mitch Marmande, Delta Coast Consultants; Robbie Naquin, Capital One Bank; and O’Neil Malbrough, GIS. •
