What began as an act of kindness ended with a Houma man hospitalized from a gunshot wound following a domestic dispute Thursday, according to a Houma Police spokesman.

Officers were dispatched to 236 Pontiff St. in East Houma around 2:15 a.m. in response to a 911 call reporting a disturbance involving rifles, said Lt. Todd Duplantis. When police arrived at the scene, they learned the suspects had fled in a four-door vehicle via Acadian Drive, he said.

About 30 minutes later, police were notified that Terry Darcy Jr., 24, of Houma, was at Leonard Chabert Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest, Duplantis said.

Darcy told police he was driving Adam Lodrigue’s wife and two children n a 1-year-old female and 5-month-old son n around Houma because she was having family problems, Duplantis said. When Darcy parked in front of the Lodrigue’s residence on Pontiff Street, the husband ran to the driver’s side of the vehicle with a rifle and shot into the car through the window two to three times, the spokesman said. Lodrigue then grabbed his children from the back seat of the vehicle, Duplantis said.

Darcy told police Lodrigue left with another subject in a silver vehicle.

Duplantis said Darcy drove himself to Chabert for medical treatment.

Detectives found Lodrigue, 17, at a residence off of Southdown Mandalay Road in West Houma. He was charged with attempted second-degree murder, Duplantis said.

James H. LeBouef III, 21, 143 Zifful Ct., Houma, was identified as the man with Lodrigue at the time of the shooting. He turned himself in to detectives at the Houma Police Department at approximately 5:45 a.m., Duplantis said. LeBouef was charged with accessory to attempted second-degree murder.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, Duplantis said.
