Houma Police arrested a local man on drug charges shortly after he sped through a radar check on Main Street Monday.

Martin Simmons, 25, of 3220 Camilla Ave., was clocked driving 65 mph in a 35 mph speed zone on La. 24 near Banks Street around 11:44 a.m., police said. When officers stopped Simmons’ 2007 gray Dodge Charger, they discovered the Houma man was wanted for failure to appear for possession or marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and for a child restraint violation.

Police arrested Simmons for reckless operation, no driver’s license on person and the warrants. Drug charges were added when officers found a small clear plastic bag of suspected marijuana inside the car, police said.

The narcotics were seized for evidence.

Simmons was booked and transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.
