Tri-Parish area voters have several tax propositions and one charter amendment on the ballot Saturday.

Lafourche Parish has four proposals. The charter amendment would prohibit parish council members from giving directives and orders to members of the executive branch.

Two tax propositions are parish wide in Lafourche. One is a new 2-mill property tax to help fund the Lafourche Council on Aging. The other is a renewal of a 5.41-mill property tax passed in 1998 for public health facilities, drainage works and library facilities.

A 5-mill property tax renewal for road and bridge improvements applies only to areas of Lafourche outside of Thibodaux, Lockport and Golden Meadow.

Voters in Wards One, Two, Three, Four, Seven and 10 in St. Mary Parish will decide on the renewal of a three-tenths percent sales tax first approved in 1983. The revenue funds police and fire operations in Franklin, and public works in Baldwin and the rest of the parish.

Voters in the Bayou Cane Fire Protection District in Terrebonne Parish will vote on a new 2-mill property tax to fund the building of a new fire station, repair existing stations and acquire equipment.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Voters are reminded to have a photo ID available.
