Medical care in Terrebonne Parish is steadily coming back online after Hurricane Gustav.

Terrebonne General Medical Center is fully operational, but only the Emergency Department is only to the public.

“We’re no turning away any patients. We’re accepting everybody,” said Rhonda Alford, director of marketing for TGMC. “Surgical procedures are limited to emergency cases only.”

The hospital is running on full power and its water is safe for patient use and treatment. Only employees, first responders and one visitor per admitted-patient are allowed in the hospital.

Meanwhile, Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center has opened a walk-in clinic at the Ambulatory Care Center next to the main hospital for non-emergency patients.

The clinic is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Chabert medical staff has also teamed with the Oregon National Guard to setup a D-NET emergency care unit in the old Winn-Dixie parking lot at 1815 Prospect Blvd.

The D-NET can handle any type of emergency services needed. Its hours are also 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Chabert is closed until roof and elevator repairs are made and power is restored.

Houma Urgent Care Center, 131 Corporate Drive, is open for non-emergency care patients from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“We’re more like a clinic or a doctor’s office,” said Darin Harson, nurse manager at Urgent Care. “We see sore throats, colds and bladder infections. We do stitches, depending on what type of stitches.”

For mental health patients, the closest facility for treatment is the St. Mary Health Center, 500 Rodrich St. in Morgan City.

The office is opened from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is accepting all patients.

If anyone has trouble coping with the stress cause by Hurricane Gustav, OptumHealth is providing a free 24-hour a day counseling help line at 1-800-689-5703.
