T’bonne juvy center faces funding cuts

The operating budget for the Terrebonne Juvenile Detention Center faces a 10 percent cut in funding next year.

A Houma newspaper reports that according to minutes from the Terrebonne Parish Council, the operating budget for the juvenile detention center will be $2.8 million. Records also show six full-time and three part-time positions were eliminated and two part-time emergency medical positions were added.

Center director Jason Hutchinson says even though positions were eliminated, nobody had to be let go from their job. Instead, he says those in the positions were either promoted or reassigned, and the positions will not be filled.
