Terrebonne Parish’s plans to make recycling more efficient for residents are in full swing, and need participation from the community.

Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government (TPCG) seeks to implement a residential curb-side recycling program in the parish, which would cost $10 per quarter, or $40 per year.

“We want to serve the most residents at the least possible cost,” Utilities Director Tom Bourg said at a previous Public Services committee meeting. “We will go through a subscription period, and we will try to map a contiguous service area for council consideration and approval.”

Each household would receive one, 18-gallon recycling container with subscriptions.

“Once begun, this program would replace the current Community Recycling Program (drop-off bins) in the established service area. This program can only be offered if a minimum number of residents in an area subscribe,” stated a press release from Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet’s office.

In addition to the curbside program, the parish also added two community recycling bins to the area – one in the Southland Mall parking lot near the Sears loading dock and a second in the Dularge Recreation Center parking lot at 1330 Dr. Beatrous Rd.

The remaining six bins’ locations remain unchanged, and the parish also stresses to residents bins accept paper, plastics, and aluminum recyclables in a single-stream fashion, according to the press release. Separating or bagging recyclables is not necessary.

“Our recycling program is gaining momentum every day,” Claudet said in a press release. “We encourage everyone to get more information and to register for our convenient curb-side recycling program.”

To register for the curbside program, residents are asked to go to www.tpcg.org/recycling. They may also e-mail recycling@tpcg.org or call the Solid Waste Division at (985) 873-6767.
