Terrebonne Churches United Food Bank will distribute food to families in need this holiday season thanks to generous donations from the citizens of the parish, the Convoy of Hope, and the St. Francis Vegetable Garden. The mission of the Terrebonne Churches United Food Bank is to feed the hungry in Terrebonne Parish through local food, monetary donations, and a network of charitable organizations, and to engage our community in the fight against hunger.

The TCU Food Bank has served approximately 30,000 people in need this year. “We are grateful to provide food to families in need during the holidays. If TCU can help someone during the holidays by removing the concern of providing food, and allowing them to focus on the true meaning of Christmas, we want to do that,” said Lawrence DeHart Executive Director of Terrebonne Churches United Food Bank.

Over the weekend, volunteers from Danos volunteered their time to harvest food at the St. Francis Vegetable Gardens in Thibodaux. Over 375 pounds of fresh produce were harvested and donated to the TCU Food Bank. Fresh produce including cabbage, broccoli, turnips, and radishes were picked, and will be distributed to clients of the Terrebonne Churches United Food Bank this holiday.

The TCU Food Bank will host pickups on the following dates:
  • Wednesday, December 21, from  12:30 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Wednesday, December 28, from 8:30 a.m. -11 a.m.
  • Saturday, December 31, from 8:30 a.m. – 11 p.m.

TCU will be closed on Saturday, December 24, Sunday, December 25, Monday, December 26, as well as Monday, January 2, 2023. If there is a true emergency when TCU is closed, please contact the office at (985) 851-5523.

“While we are currently providing for families for the holidays, the need is here everyday,” said DeHart. The organization works everyday to ensure that the needs of the community and local families are met. If you would like to make a contribution to TCU, checks can be made out to Terrebonne Churches United Food Bank, and mailed to 922 Sunset Street, Houma, LA 70360, or by visiting the organization’s website, and click on the donate button.
