Photographs taken by a Chase automatic teller machine may have helped authorities find the teen who physically assaulted a 51-year-old woman during an attempted robbery in Houma last Friday.

Detectives arrested Christopher Michael Bowen, 17, of 19 S. Cane Circle yesterday, around 4:30 p.m.

Houma Police were dispatched to the bank’s St. Charles Street site at 7:04 p.m. Nov. 3. The victim told officers she was at the walk-up ATM when she was approached by Bowen, according to police.

“Not often do we get incidents like this,” said Houma Police spokesman Lt. Todd Duplantis. “This has been the first-time in awhile that we have had an ATM robbery.”

Armed with an aluminum bat, Bowen confronted the woman and demanded cash.

When the victim objected Bowen’s demand, he first struck the hood of her vehicle and then struck the woman in the hand with the bat.

Duplantis said the woman was not transported for medical treatment, but did receive minor cuts on her finger.

The victim’s description of Bowen as a young, white male, wearing a white shirt with a blue hood and khaki pants, along with security photos may have provided essential information to make an arrest.

Duplantis said that Bowen fled – without any money – the bank running toward Southdown West Boulevard, leading authorities to believe that he lived in the area.

Bowen was charged with attempted armed robbery and simple criminal damage to property. He was transported to Terrebonne Parish Jail where he awaits trial or bond.
