Houma Police caught a local teen riding off on his bicycle with goods stolen from a Hobson Street residence Thursday, a department spokesman said.

Officer Jeffery Lirette spotted the teen carrying a duffle bag on his bike as he patrolled the Morgan Street/Park Avenue area, said Lt. Todd Duplantis. While questioning the teen, Lirette learned that he and Toby Lewis, 17, of 400 Morgan St., Houma, had burglarized the Hobson Street home. Lirette recovered several hundred dollars worth of clothing and electronic equipment at the two suspects’ residences, the spokesman said.

Lewis was arrested and charged with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. The juvenile was charged with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling and curfew violation.

Duplantis said a police investigation is ongoing to determine if the two are linked to the recent spade of burglaries that have been occurring in west Houma.

If convicted, Lewis could have up to one year in prison at hard labor without the benefit of parole, Duplantis said.
