The Terrebonne Parish School Board approved appointments for the 2011-12 school year and recognized standout employees last Tuesday.

Para-professional Susie Slaughter, custodian Eddie Jones and clerical staff member Rebecca Labat were honored as outstanding school support employees and offered documentation for their work.

“I would like to add [that] the recognition [offered] tonight could never repay the dedication, work and most of all the service to our children,” Superintendent Philip Martin said of the support staff honorees. “We’re all deeply appreciative and very fortunate to have people of this caliber working for us.”

The list of appointees included Stacy Solet who was named as a new supervisor of elementary education assessment and testing, Melanie Robert as principal of Elysian Fields Middle School and Dawn Fleniken as principal at Oakshire Elementary School.

Extracurricular appointments at H.L. Bourgeois High School include head baseball and assistant football coach John Gatlin, cheerleader supervisor Donna Boudreaux and drill squad sponsor Michelle McDonald.

At South Terrebonne High School, Xylon Marts was named 9th grade assistant football coach and baseball coach, and Marvin Stewart was appointed assistant boys’ varsity basketball coach.

Ryan Davis was named assistant football coach at Ellender Memorial High School.

At Evergreen Junior High School, Troy Jackson will work as 9th grade boys’ football and basketball coach, and assistant girls’ basketball coach.

An additional 58 administrative and staff positions throughout the school district were listed with openings for a purchasing agent and principals at Grand Caillou Elementary School and Lisa Park Elementary School to be advertised.
