Terrebonne General Medical Center’s Women’s Center was recently recognized in the International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) Care Directory.

The directory salutes hospitals, birthing facilities and birthing services that hire certified IBCLCs, and have a professional lactation support program available five to seven days a week.

Recognized facilities must have completed a project within the last two years that protects, promotes and supports breastfeeding with a project description and documentation.

Julia Bourg is TGMC’s board-certified lactation consultant in the Women’s Center. Bright Beginnings, TGMC’s family-centered classes for expecting families, is designed to meet physical, mental and emotion needs of the entire family. Sessions include childbirth, sibling and breastfeeding classes, as well as mommy-and-me support groups.

Awarded in January, the recognition is valid through January 2013.

Only 192 facilities in the U.S. and four other countries were recognized. Five Louisiana facilities earned recognition.
