Thibodaux chamber to host political forum Thursday

Members of the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce will host candidates for seven state and parish seats during a political forum Thursday at the Jean Lafitte Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center in Thibodaux beginning at 6 p.m.


Positions and candidates slated to face off in public discussion include


State Senate District 2 contenders Elton Aubert, a Democrat from Vacherie, Michael Bell, Democrat from Prairieville, Troy Brown, Democrat from Paincourtville, Alfred Carter, Republican from Thibodaux, George Grace Jr., Democrat from Sunshine and Zane Kasem, Republican from Baton Rouge.

State Senate District 21 Republican candidates Bret Allain from Jeanerette and Darrin Guidry from Houma will face off for those in attendance.


The State House District 51 race will feature challenger Howard Castay Jr. from Morgan City with no party affiliation against incumbent Republican Joe Harrison from Napoleonville.

Candidates from State House District 53 that are scheduled to meet include Republicans Theresa Ellender of Bourg, Billy Hebert of Houma and Lenar Whitney of Houma.

Lafourche Parish Council races will offer District 1 candidates and Thibodaux Democrats Jerry Jones, Tyrone Williams and Jimmie Wilson in competition.

The District 3 race in Lafourche Parish will present Thibodaux residents Aaron Caillouet who has no party affiliation, facing Democrat Michael Matherene.

Lafourche Parish Council District 4 Republican candidates Joe Fertitta and Jason Ponvelle, both of Thibodaux are also on the forum agenda.
