On August 1, 2023, shortly before 11:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a three-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 308 just south of Louisiana Highway 1011. The crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Tia Gorrell of Houma.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2014 Jeep Wrangler, driven by 38-year-old Kendall Dollar, was traveling south on LA Hwy 308. Traveling north was a 2014 RAM 2500 pulling a camper trailer and a 2016 Toyota Corolla driven by Gorrell. For reasons still under investigation, the Jeep crossed the center line and sideswiped the RAM and camper trailer before striking the Toyota head-on.

All occupants were properly restrained at the time of the crash. Dollar suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a New Orleans area hospital via Acadian Ambulance AirMed for treatment. The driver of the RAM was uninjured in the crash. Gorrell, who was pregnant, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the RAM was not suspected of being impaired and voluntarily submitted to a breath sample which revealed no alcohol detected. Impairment on the part of Dollar and Gorrell is unknown with standard toxicology test waiting results. This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Stay safe on the road by always driving attentively and without impairment. Avoid distractions, such as texting, eating, or using your phone, and remain focused on the task at hand. Also never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs (prescribed or illicit). Making responsible choices while driving can save lives and prevent tragedies.

Troop C has investigated 15 fatal crashes resulting in 17 fatalities in 2023.
