A meeting of the Police Jury Association of Louisiana has resulted in a move that some might consider a block of influence for the Tri-parish region when it comes to formulating resolutions that address issues dealt with through state or federal government bodies.

During a PJAL meeting in Baton Rouge, Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet was elected president of Regions I and II of the PJAL for 2012. Lafourche Parish President Charlotte Randolph was named to be vice president of the same two regions during the same term. The duo joins PJAL and St. Mary Parish President Paul Naquin in leadership positions of recognition among 64 parish executive administrators for the state.

“It’s a real honor to have been selected as the president of Regions I and II of the Police Jury Association,” Claudet said. “It doesn’t hurt, but I don’t know that it holds a lot of influence.”

Naquin congratulated Claudet and Randolph to their new positions and promoted the state police jury convention to be held in Houma during February 2012. “This will be the largest convention ever held in Terrebonne Parish,” Claudet said. “It begins the Thursday after Mardi Gras.”

The PJAL Regions I and II include St. Bernard, Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist and Terrebonne parishes.

The PJAL was created in 1924 to improve state government in Louisiana.

The association is comprised of eight geographic regions of the state. This organization gathers and disseminates information, and operates the Parish Government Risk Management Agency. Decisions made by parish representatives could result in policies set by state legislators.

“[Our] regional group meets prior to the convention to determine if resolutions from this area should be presented at the convention for adoption,” Claudet said.
