Ever wonder what a bomb robot looks like up close? What equipment the state police S.W.A.T. uses? Or what the Mobile Commander Center looks like inside?

Saturday, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., the public can see firsthand the inner workings of Louisiana State Police Troop C. Captain Val Penouilh, Troop C commander, and his staff are hosting an Open House at the headquarters in Gray, located at the intersection of La. 24 North and U.S. 90.

“Many citizens only know one aspect of state police, seeing the trooper on the side of the road investigating crashes and writing tickets,” said Troop C spokesman Trooper First Class Gilbert Dardar. “This will be an excellent opportunity to see the many different sections [of the agency].”

The public will see equipment and demonstrations involving the agency’s Hazardous Materials/Explosives Section, including the bomb robot and bomb detection K-9; S.W.A.T.; Narcotics; the training academy’s Recruiting and Applied Technology sections; and the State Police Mobile Command Center.

The various police units, including the Troop C Crown Victoria and Camaro, will also be on display.

A certified car seat technician will be available to inspect child safety seats. And troopers will be taking fingerprints and DNA samples of children, which will be given to parents for safekeeping should they ever be needed.
