Louisiana State Police Troop C in Gray is holding its third annual Open House on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The troop is located at the intersection of La. 24 (West Park Avenue) and U.S. 90.

The Open House “will be an excellent opportunity to see what the State Police has to offer,” according to a state police news release.

“Different sections from within the Louisiana State Police will be in attendance to show the equipment (they use), plus some demonstrations will be performed,” the release states.

“We’re bringing in units from headquarters (in Baton Rouge) to show the diversity of our organization,” said Troop C Sergeant Todd Toloudis.

A highlight of the Open House promises to be the state police’s Hazardous Materials/Explosives Section bomb robot. The three-foot high machine moves on tracks, Toloudis said.

Equipment from the state police’s regional SWAT force comprising Troops C, D, and I will be on display, he said.

Technicians from Troop C will be on hand to install automobile child safety seats free of charge, he said.

Also, state police recruiters and Troop C’s K-9 unit will be in attendance.

The Applied Technology section of the state police’s Mobile Command Center, the section that “deals with DWI detection and handles the Intoxilyzer (the Breathalyzer used by the state police),” will be at the Open House as well, Toloudis said.

The release states, “Troopers will also be taking fingerprints and DNA samples of children. These samples will be given back to the parents for safekeeping should they be needed in the future.”

The Open House will have free food and drinks available to the public.
