UPDATE: 5:15 p.m. Sunday:

The Tropical Storm Warning in effect for the area has officially been discontinued, as Tropical Storm Debby continues to shift its track eastward toward Florida.

The latest National Hurricane Center storm track has taken Louisiana away from the track’s bulls-eye. The tropical storm is now forecast to make landfall early Wednesday somewhere on Florida’s panhandle.

According to the 4 p.m. advisory, Debby is located at 28.4 N, 85.8 W. Maximum sustained winds for the storm remain at 60 mph and Debby is moving northeast at 3 mph.

UPDATE: 2:54 p.m. Sunday:

The Tri-parish area remains under a Tropical Storm Warning, as Tropical Storm Debby continues to churn in the Gulf of Mexico.

Latest forecasts for Debby have the storm positioned at 28.3 N and 85.9 W.

Debby’s movement is toward the northeast at 4 mph and the strorm’s maximum sustained winds have increased to 60 mph.

Debby’s easterly turn is potentially good news for the Tri-parish area. Initial forecast plots had Debby to make a western turn sometime today, which would have thrust the storm onto Louisiana’s coast early Wednesday morning.

But latest trends and computer models have the storm continuing to jog to the east, which would forecast a landfall near the Florida panhandle.

Stay tuned for more updates.

UPDATE: 4:43 p.m. Saturday

The Tri-parish area is under a Tropical Storm Warning, as the National Weather Service upgraded an area of disturbed weather in the Gulf of Mexico to Tropical Storm Debby.

Debby, which was located at 26.2 N, 87.6 W according to 4 p.m. coordinates, is drifting to the north at 5 mph and has maximum-sustained wind speeds of 50 mph.

The National Weather Service’s track for Debby forecasts the slow drift to continue overnight until a forecast due-west turn mid-day tomorrow.

The NWS’s track takes the storm inland into southeast Texas early Thursday morning.

This track would be a wet one for the area, as the majority of Debby’s precipitation is located in the storm’s eastern quadrant.

The Tropical Storm Warning issued is from the mouth of the Pearl River in Mississippi westward to Morgan City.

Lafourche, Terrebonne and St. Mary parishes are all included in the warning.

Debby is not expected to significantly strengthen due to westerly winds pumping sheer into the storm’s center.

Stay tuned for more updates.
