UPDATE: 10:03 a.m. 

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff has located the missing inmate, Larry Sonny Hampton, 31, and have placed him back in custody without incident.

Lafourche Parish authorities say an inmate escaped from their jail Thursday morning, and are actively searching for him.

Sheriff Craig Webre said Larry Sonny Hampton, 31, escaped sometime between 7 and 8 am. 

Webre said Hampton escaped kicking out and climbing through a 12” x 12” fan vent before scaling the perimeter fence which included two sets of razor wire. ing for Hampton.


Hampton was booked into the jail Dec. 6, 2016, after turning himself in due to an active warrant for a parole violation. He was being held without bond for Louisiana Probation and Parole.

Webre said he has a criminal history dating back to 2004, with arrests for battery, theft, purse snatching, burglary, and criminal damage to property.

Hampton is described as a slender white male standing 6’2” tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He also has several tattoos on his face, neck, arms and back. Hampton is not considered dangerous and was classified as a minimum-security trustee.
