The Lafourche Parish Registrar of Voters Office would like to invite parish residents to take part in its annual Voter Education Week this week.

Citizens are encouraged to stop at either the Thibodaux (307 W. 4th St.) or Galliano (16241 E. Main St., Suite B23) office until Friday, May 14, to check on the status of their voter registration or to update their registration.

“What we’re really trying to do is get people here and try to get better voter participation,” said Deputy Registrar of Voters Jackie Aucoin.

This year, Aucoin said the department is promoting online voter registration for parish residents.

“It means you don’t even have to get out of your home to register to vote,” said Aucoin. “It’s convenient, especially for younger people who have busy schedules. You can make any changes online also.”

But for residents stopping by either office for Voter Education Week, Aucoin said the department is also looking for suggestions to make the voting process better.

“We want to know from the people who attend, what could be done to improve the voting process and what could be done to encourage voter participation,” said Aucoin.

Aucoin added the department is also looking for suggestions on what Lafourche Parish’s voting hours should be.

Interested citizens can contact the Thibodaux office at (985) 447-3256 and the Galliano office at (985) 632-5520.
