Members of the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) Region 2 team will gather at the Morgan City Auditorium next month to review projects for the region.

Region 2 includes Terrebonne Parish, as well as Atchafalaya and Teche Vermillion.


The CWPPRA regions n four in all n extend from Calacsieu to Lake Pontchartrain.


Under the Breaux Act, the regional planning teams are hosting Basin Subcommittee meetings across the area to compile projects to be included in the 17th priority project list.

The Morgan City meeting will be held Jan. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A coastwide meeting Feb. 7 will unite all Regional Planning Teams to select up to 20 projects and six demonstrations. That meeting will be held at the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries office in Baton Rouge.

According to the CWPPRA Web site, 129 active projects are under way on 13 priority project lists. Since the CWPPRA went into effect, 64 projects have been completed and 11 are under construction. The work is designed to restore, create or protect 116,751 acres of coastal wetlands. The total cost of work on the 13 lists is $1.7 billion.

Last year, over 40 projects were launched.
