Take a deep breath and get your best singing voice ready, because the Larose Park Idol competition returns this weekend.

The 5th annual contest will feature the best singers the Bayou Area has to offer in three age groups: 8-12, 13-17 and 18 and up.

The competition begins Saturday at 10 a.m. with open auditions to anyone willing to try out.

Those selected to enter the competition will begin belting notes later that day at 1 p.m. with the best of the best reaching the final round, which will take place Sunday at 1 p.m.

There is no entry fee for contestants, but if you don’t feel like flexing the golden pipes, admission to see who’s going to be the next Larose Park Idol is $1 for the open try-out and $3 for each round.

In fact, Park Director Jasmine Ayo said fans can even vote for their favorite competitor in the first round and advance him or her to the final round the next day.

“We always have really good crowds, and it’s interesting to see who the crowd votes for to win the People’s Choice Award, just to see who the crowd pulls for,” said Ayo.

All proceeds go to the park’s upkeep, and the grand prize winner gets $500 cash and will be asked to sing at the 37th Annual French Food Festival coming up in October.

Division winners will receive crystal trophies, and every participant gets an event t-shirt.

Contestants must have three songs prepared and must sing a different song each round.
