Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries employees are taking oil cleanup classes in Baton Rouge.

The department says about 90 employees are scheduled for four-hour classes this week.

The classes teach techniques and safety precautions for cleaning the shoreline of oil that has been exposed to the elements and is not a danger for breathing. Crews must wear safety clothing but don’t have to wear breathing gear.

According to the department, the class covers all areas of recovery from oiled wildlife species to habitat and beach debris removal. It says workers must pass a test to be part of the oil spill response, and it certifies them only for this spill.
