Two people, one of whom was a one-year-old infant, died in a car collision Sunday afternoon in Dulac on Grand Caillou Rd. (La. 57) near American Boulevard.

The crash also resulted in the death of an unborn child.

Joanna Feet, 22, of Dulac, and Brenden Gaudet, the infant, of Houma, were riding northbound in a car driven by James Gaudet, 24, of Houma, when Gaudet’s 2002 Toyota Camry “ran off the road to the right,” according to a state police press release.

Gaudet then “overcorrected his car to the left causing it to rotate counterclockwise,” the release stated.

The Camry “crossed the centerline into the (other) lane and was hit in the passenger’s side by a” 2002 Pontiac Grand AM driven by Sandy Aucoin, 25, of Houma, it said. She was driving alone.

Feet and the infant were pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office.

James Gaudet was critically injured, and taken to Chabert Medical Center in Houma, where he was in intensive care as of Monday morning, said state trooper Rodney Hyatt.

Aucoin, who was 36 weeks pregnant, lost her child in the crash, the release states. She suffered only “what appeared to be moderate injuries.”

“All of the cars’ occupants were properly restrained,” Hyatt said.

Hyatt said he did not know if Brenden Gaudet was in a child safety seat, or where Feet and the infant were seated in the Camry at the time of the accident.

He said that, from “what we were told” by “ family and friends” of the two, Feet was James Gaudet’s girlfriend, and Brenden was their child.

Blood was taken from the drivers of both of the vehicles and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge to test for the presence of alcohol and drugs, the release stated. Charges are pending until the results of the test are known.
