Alcide Joseph Foret, 90, a native of Raceland, La., and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013.


Mr. Foret was a member of the 146th Combat Engineers during World War II and served as a heavy weapons non-commissioned officer. He was among the first wave of troops to land on Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy. He received the Purple Heart, European Theater of Operations Campaign Medal with 3 battle stars, Good Conduct Medal and Distinguished Unit Medal. He served several terms as commander of VFW Post 5097 and was commander of the third district in 1960.


He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marcia Foret; daughter, Kathy (Rodney) Mire; sisters, Martha Grabert, Flossie (Abraham) Martin and Louella (Daniel) Matherne; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samson and Alida Foret.

Burial is at St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux. (Landry’s)
