Alfred George O’Dowd Jr., 52, a native of New Orleans, La., and resident of Chauvin, La., died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at his home.


Mr. O’Dowd was a member of the Groveland Missionary Church in Groveland, Ill., where he lived for five years. A 1975 graduate of Holy Cross High School, he served as captain of the ROTC. He won Salesman of the Year numerous times for Bill Watson Ford and served as a St. Bernard Parish sheriff’s deputy. He also enjoyed photography and owned his own professional photography business. A former member of TQ and the Top Cats, he played the drums and loved music. Mr. O’Dowd also performed with the CAST Theatre group in St. Bernard Parish and at Le Petit Theatre in Houma.

He is survived by his parents, Alfred George Sr. and June Carole Sevin O’Dowd; daughter, Christie L. (Merill) Humberg; brother, Timothy “Timbo” (Rose) O’Dowd; sister, June Carole (Curtis) Odum; three grandsons, Xavier, Alexander and Zachary Humberg; and seven nieces, Katie, Shelly, Tara, Hannah, Gretchen, Candice and Kayla.


He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Webster Sr. and Lena LaJaunie Sevin, and Jame and Ethel O’Dowd.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Samart Funeral Home of Houma. A religious service will follow Tuesday at the funeral home.

He will be buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
