Alton H. “Bill” McCollum Sr., 95, a native of Thibodaux, La., died Friday, July 9, 2010.
Mr. McCollum worked for Railway Express for 42 years. He was a kind and gentle man, slow to anger and quick with a funny one-liner, always willing to laugh at himself and with others. He had boundless love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed terribly, not only by family, but also by so many whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy Christensen; son, Howard (Linda) McCollum; three grandchildren, Karen Christensen Reeves, Ronald (Jodi) Christensen and Jennifer (Matt) McCollum Alexander; six great-grandchildren, Daniel (Ashley) Garrett and Kara Reeves, Melissa and Brooke Christensen and Jackson and Daniel Alexander; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings; and wife of 62 years, Edwina “Itzi” Talbot McCollum.
The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to physician, Richard Jackson, and to caregivers, Sharon Phillips and Monica Murillo, for their love and care over many years.
He is interred at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
