Amanda Rita Ellender Hummel, 87, a native and resident of Pointe-Aux-Chenes, died at 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 5.
She is survived by four sons, George A. Hummel Jr., and wife Shirlene, Paul A. Hummel and wife Iliana, Thomas A. Hummel and wife Susan and Timothy A. Hummel and wife Sheri; one daughter, Diane H. Taub and husband Leon; one sister, Wilma E. Brown; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, George A. Hummel Sr.; her parents, Harrison Ellender and Margueritte Guidry Ellender; one son, Gerald Hummel; one brother, Harrison “Dooney” Ellender; and one sister, Hilda Ellender.
She retired in Pointe-Aux-Chenes 30 years ago in her parents home. She was a retired registered nurse and a graduate of Charity Hospital in New Orleans, La. She also helped serve as a nurse to family and friends all her life. She was a member of the Lions Club, a Eucharist Minister, a Lector, a religion teacher in her parish and a devout Catholic. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, December 8, at Chauvin Funeral Home and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
