Amy J. “Merle” Woolens, 72, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Houma, La. died Friday, December 28, 2007.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Johnson and his wife Leslie; three daughters, Peggy Lyons, Gwendolyn Smith, and Debra Curney and her husband Walter; two sisters, Ora Lee McGuire and Alice Sims; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents, James Johnson and Sarah Sims; three brothers, Robert McGuire, Milton McGuire, and Berick McGuire, Jr.; three sisters, Idell Ballard, Olivia Frances, and Maisie Bateast; and her grandparents, Amos and Phillis Sims.

Amy was a devout Baptist. She enjoyed cooking and reading.

Visitation is Thursday, January 3, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with the funeral on Friday, January 4, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthews Baptist Church. She will be buried in Crescent Farm Cemetery.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
