Anthony J. “Pina” Politz, 84, a native of Napoleonville and resident of Cypress, Texas, died at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2009.


Mr. Politz was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran – surviving a Kamikaze attack on the destroyer USS Sigsbee at Okinawa. A 43-year employee of Valley Steel Products Company, he retired as vice president. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 1099, VFW and American Legion.


He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kate Denoux Politz; son, Timothy Politz; daughters, Cathlyn (John) Mayson and Terry (Paul) Brown; sister, Lucille “Lou” (Charles) Simoneaux; brothers, Russell “Bill” and John (Betty) Politz; five grandchildren, Brent Mayson, Cheri Longan and Angie, Courtney and Taylor Politz; and two great-grandchildren, Danielle and Caleb Longan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaetano and Rosa Macaluso Politz; brother, Peter Politz; and sisters, Doris Mascarella, Josie Simoneaux and Mary Landry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

He is buried at St. Anne’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Napoleonville.
