Bessie Prejeant Melancon, 95, a native of Houma, La., and a resident of Gray, La., died at 11:30 p.m. Friday, September 12.


She is survived by two daughters, Emilie M. Daye and Elizabeth M. Bennett; one brother, Herbert Prejeant; three sisters, Vivian LeBouef, Thelma Boudreaux and Euphemie Authement; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, George Peter Melancon; her parents,

Philibert and Julia Sonnier Prejeant; two sons, Kenneth Joseph and Philibert Mark


Melancon; one grandson, John Melancon; one brother, Leon Prejeant; and one sister, Anna Mae Hidalgo.

She was a professional seamstress.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society are preferred.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church with the funeral to follow. She will be buried at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Falgout Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
