Blanche Babin Matherne, 95, a resident and native of Raceland, La., died at 3:25 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2006.


Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., in which a Funeral Mass will be held, Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006 at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church with burial in the Holy Savior Catholic Cemetery.


She is preceded in death by her husband, Victorin Matherne, Sr.; her parents, Hypolite and Alice Martin Babin; one daughter, Marie Jeanne Matherne Gautreaux; four brothers, Jack, Joe, Lionel, and Presley Babin, and five sisters, Evella Bergeron, Esther Rahmel, Lillie Sevin, Solange Benanti, and Hermine Waguespack.

She is survived by one son, Vic Matherne Jr.; one sister, Marie “Micky” Bourgeois; eight grandchildren, Jeanne Marie Morello, Rene Gautreaux, Giselle Juneau, Paul Gautreaux, Leigh Thibodaux, Leslie Guttke, Steve Matherne, and Beau Matherne, and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was a retired nurse, a member of the Ladies Alter Society, a Catholic, and a parishoner of St. Hilary of Poitiers.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and spoiling her grandchildren.
