Burtis Elmo Gaudet, 84, a native of Thibodaux and resident of Lake Charles, died Monday, July 9, 2007 at 2:55am.

He is survived by one son, Ronald Jordan Gaudet; two daughters, Patricia LeJune and her husband James and Garadeen “Deenie” Nordan and her husband Bob Jr.; three sisters, Pearl Legraize, Esthelina Naquin and Wilma Henry; one brother, Alfred P. Gaudet Jr.; six grandchildren, Brian and Joel LeJune, Bob III and Chris Nordan and Amy and Ronnie Gaudet Jr.; and eight great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Madeline and Jace LeJune, Bob IV, Reagan and Reese Nordan, and Hannah and Emma Nordan.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Matilda Broussard Gaudet; his parents, Alfred Paul and Emilienne Legarde Gaudet; four sisters, Emilienne, Shirley, Hazel and Loretta Gaudet; and three brothers, Clay, Carroll and Lynn Gaudet.


Burtis graduated from Thibodaux High School in 1940 and has lived in Lake Charles since 1951. He served four years in the U.S. Army Air Corps in South Asia. He worked as a heavy-duty equipment mechanic for Industrial Construction and retired from F. Miller and Sons in 1982.

He was a charter member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid sportsman, enjoyed watching Barbe, LSU and especially MSU football games. He and his wife enjoyed traveling extensively around the U.S. and parts of Europe.

Visitation is Thursday from 8:00am until 1:00pm with the funeral to follow at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. He will be buried at Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Society, American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to express special thanks to the caretaker angels, Delicia Marburgh and Shannon Chachere.
