Burtman Andrew Poiencot Sr., a native and resident of Dularge, La., died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014.


Mr. Poiencot was an active member in his community and would help anyone who was in need. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His mission in life was to do Gods’ work here on Earth. He was a member of the Dularge Fire Department, past fire chief and chairman of the fire board. The new central station was named “The Burt Poiencot Dularge Fire Station” in 2011. He was a member of the Dularge Recreation Center, St. Eloi Knights of Columbus 8779 and member and usher at St. Eloi Church. He loved to play golf and was always there to help cook at every Dularge Fair, any benefit for the community, gumbo cook offs and the Southdown Market.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maxine Poiencot; sons, Tate (Karen) and Troy Poiencot; sister, Joyce Green; brothers, Russell, Malcom and Aloysius Poiencot; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Enos and Celine Poiencot; and sister, Nell Bienvenu.  


Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Chauvin Funeral Home and 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at St. Eloi Church with services to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery. (Chauvin)
