Carol Alphonse Cantrelle Sr., 77, a native of New Orleans, La., and resident of Houma, La., died Wednesday, May 5, 2010.


Mr. Cantrelle was retired with the sheriff’s department and started the K-9 Unit while there. He was also the owner of Cantrelle Fence Company and Supply for 53 years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Masonic Lodge, Fraternal Order of the Police, the Shriners, American Legion and VFW.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norma Kraemer Cantrelle; sons, Karl, Carol Jr. (Karen) and Abel (Amy) Cantrelle; daughter, Charmaine (Lawrence) Chaisson; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Stanley and Gerald Cantrelle; and sister, Janice C. Windham.

Mr. Cantrelle is buried at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
